Code of Conduct

  1. Smoking, food, and drinks are not permitted in the library.
  2. Briefcases, bags, & personal gear should be stored in lockers or on coat rack. The VRL is not responsible for lost items.
  3. Personal copiers, scanners, cameras & cell phones are not permitted in the library.
  4. Laptop computers ARE permitted and electrical outlets are available.
  5. No library material should leave the Reading Room. We reserve the right to inspect parcels, bags and papers.
  6. Patrons are not permitted in the stack area.
  7. Due to donor or legal restrictions or the fragile physical condition of materials, access cannot be assured to all holdings. The Librarian is responsible for making such determinations.
  8. A maximum of one (1) reference will be made available to a researcher at any one time.
  9. Please do not lean or write on documents or volumes.
  10. Because photocopying archival materials may cause damage to documents, please make an effort to take notes before requesting copies. Some documents may not be photocopied, at discretion of the Librarian.
  11. Photocopies will be made by staff at $.50 per black & white page/$1. per color page.
  12. Self-serve microfilm can be read and copied @ 10 cents per copy.
  13. A maximum of 15 copies or 20% (whichever is less) from any one source is permitted.
  14. Anyone needing a sizeable number of items or pages copied should make a request one week ahead of when these are needed, to allow staff to copy items as time permits. Requests can be made in person, by phone, or via email.
  15. Copies made from the VRL collections cannot be sold, reproduced, exhibited, distributed, or published in any form, including electronically, without consent of the Librarian. Copies must include the credit line, "Courtesy of the Vedder Research Library of the Greene County Historical Society, Coxsackie, NY."   16. Professional researchers visiting the VRL should not solicit clients or interfere with staff assisting patrons in any way.
